Top Fuel in China

Written by Jory Elliott · March 10, 2006

Although details are limited at this point in time there are talks taking place between some influential parties in the motor sports world to arrange for an exhibition top fuel drag race in China.

Scooter Brothers, a founder of Competition Cams in Memphis, Tennessee and Connie Kalitta, of Bounty Hunter fame are currently making arrangements to organize the match race in China. Competition Cams is a supplier of high end engine components to competitors in NASCAR and the NHRA while Connie brings his stable of top fuel talent to the table. There are no details on the exact location or what drivers would participate although it could be assumed that the short list includes Hillary Will in her KB Construction fueler, Dave Grubnic and the Stri-Vectin team and Doug Kalitta with his MAC Tools sponsored entry ,since the Kalitta Racing team is playing an instrumental role in arranging this event. Connie has also offered to fly the cars and necessary support equipment to China via Kalitta Air aboard one of its cargo planes. As of now there has been no confirmation of a date for this match race to take place but hopefully barring any major set backs there will be more information available to us in the near future regarding this extraordinary venture.

I believe this has been in the works for some time and certainly will be a huge undertaking but he has the advantage of his cargo business. I’m guessing they’ll have to have several other cars there to be worthwhile. Certainly interesting to see how it goes.

    Will,

Its true that there always seems to be some talk of a match race taking place in a foreign land with the NHRA fuel guys. This inquest into the China deal may not be any more serious than the rest. However with the success of the Australian trip over the offseason and the Kalitta gang being involved with that venture I could see this coming together.

I havent heard how many teams or drivers might be involved in the deal but it would make sense that there were at least a few stops on the tour and perhaps 4-6 teams there to compete.

Got something to say?
