Torco Suspends Team Sponsorships
Written by Jonathan Ingram · January 9, 2008
Breaking news….Torco Race Fuels is suspending sponsorship support for many drag racing teams as Torco CEO and President Evan Knoll takes a medical leave of absence from his company.
(Hat tip to Pro Mod driver Erica Ortiz, who blogged about it and let me know about this on the Twitter social media/Web 2.0 site.)
Based on an announcement and Q&A session from Torco, it appears that Evan Knoll needs to take a medical leave of absence from his company in order to rest, following complications from a 2004 car accident head injury.
From Torco:
“This only affects the large number of race teams we support. We will continue to support the races and the sanctioning bodies that we are involved in. Our IHRA and NHRA relationships will continue. We are a race fuel company and we cannot get out of the sport completely. We sell race fuel, that?s what we do. We?re just taking a step back on the race teams we support.”
This leaves big names like Mike Ashley, Melanie Troxel, Clay Millican, Gary Densham and others scrambling for sponsorship and stability one month before Winternationals in Pomona.

I’m not surprised that even big name sponsors are pulling out.Sports is spelled M-O-N-E-Y and alot of the good times of the last decade or two are history.
I’m not surprised either, its tough times for most companies right now. Although the headline should read Torco Racing Fuels. The company Torco Int’l Corp. the manufactuers of Torco Oil and the owners of the Torco name have all their 2008 sponsorships in place. Torco Oil has been in the racing business for 58 years and are going strong. I just want to make sure that people are aware of the facts.
