1,000’s of Live Nudes

Ha ha, just kidding, but it got your attention didn’t it? Seriously now lets talk about some racing going on this weekend in Cleveland. That’s right it’s once again time for the Grand Prix of Cleveland in which various SCCA pro series will be participating in support of the Champ Series race to take place Sunday. Now before I talk about the racing I would like to take a minute to talk about Cleveland, a sentimental favorite of mine.

ChampCarWorldSeries.com: Burke Lakefront Airport Track Info

This is the 24th running at the famed track at Burke Lakefront Airport and it is one of the most successful events in U.S. road racing. It is a temporary course but unlike other temporary courses the racing here doesn’t suck. The reason is because it’s so open, which lends to plenty of passing opportunities, something most street races don’t have.

And why do we even have temporary street courses? Simple, fans prefer them because they don’t have to drive 2 hours out of the city in order to get to the track, which has always been the down side to the more technical and demanding traditional road course. The great advantage that Cleveland has is it’s claim to be the only street course track we’re spectators can see the entire race. Apparently most race fans don’t like only being able to see a portion of the race and traveling from corner to corner in order to get a different view of the track (I do, but I’m weird, lets move on). So I say, lets build more permanent Cleveland-like tracks.

There have been a recent number of road courses built across America in the last few years all of them are of the more traditional style. I say lets forget that old format and design more tracks that are permanent road courses with plenty of width for passing and great views for the fans. I fail to see why this wouldn’t be possible, it seems to me that designing this type of track actually takes up less over all space than does a more traditional road course, and god knows there’s plenty of flat land out there. Wouldn’t it be great if every race were as competitive and viewer friendly as Cleveland?
