Danica-mania to “Invade” Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona
Written by Marc Boland · January 5, 2006
Indianapolis 500 fourth place finisher and IndyCar Series Rookie of the Year, Danica Patrick has been invited by Rusty Wallace to co-drive his #2 Pontiac Crawford in the January 28-29 Rolex 24 At Daytona.
Lead driver for the team is sports car veteran Allen McNish along with Boris Said, Wallace, who will be making his first ever sports car start and Patrick.
Patrick has never competed at Daytona, however she has had experience with the “sporty set” having previously driven a Ferrari Maranello F-550 at Road Atlanta, and also a PTG BMW.
While Wallace, who tested his #2 Crawford machine prior to Christmas, said this would be his “last race ever in competition,” he later admitted he might try additional one-off road races if the opportunity came up, possibly for the Rolex Series race in Mexico City.
Patrick seems to be assured of accepting the former NASCAR stars invitation, but will have an opportunity to test the car later today before giving her formal approval.
“It’s always flattering when you can run with drivers like Rusty, Allen or Boris,” said Patrick, who finished fourth in the 2005 Indianapolis 500 after leading the event late in the race. “Provided I go out there fast and everythingComments
